We all love good looking furniture, but imagine it was also sustainable and eco-friendly? That’s like a dream for all those out their that love to keep their house looking good but conscious of the environment around them. Especially when creating a place where we want to work from, theres a different type of satisfaction when it’s clean, aesthetic, minimal but also eco friendly. Here’s some things I’d keep in mind when design a room or office but keeping it sustainable:
Start With Natural Materials –
We can effortlessly use more sustainable materials when decorating our home offices and they also look good. Incorporating materials like wood, bamboo, cork, linen all are right at our fingertips.

One of the best ways to make your home office more sustainable and eco friendly is by adding in some greenery to the room. Adding some cute potted plants looks great, change the plant pots to add an aesthetic touch and ta da, you’re keeping in mind the environment but you’ve got your chic home office too!
To let in nature in another way, it would be ideal if your home office room has a window to let in some natural light, this goes a long way. Not only will it brighten up your room, it will also help to keep you concentrated and awake by letting Mother Nature do its job.
To keep that nature feel in your room, why not add some earthy colours? Your home office would look great with this touch. Adding some colour into your home office replicating the colours of natural materials like sand, soil, stone and plants helps to keep that eco friendly and natural spirit in your office. You can easily change your plant pot colour to a terracotta coloured one, add an olive green cushion to your computer chair, an ochre coloured desk mat and a sand coloured rug, that brightens and up lifts the mood of your office all whilst keeping in mind nature.
If you want to go one step further, try to add in some furniture which use organic textures. This is basically taking natural designs but incorporating it into your office through different furniture.

Choose Pieces That Last –
Picking furniture which lasts longer and is eco friendly is more beneficial than constantly changing your furniture based on trends. Look for the furniture which is quality and fits your home office well so that you don’t have to replace it every few years. For example, investing in a sustainable desk which is made from bamboo might be a bit pricey but it will last much longer than a regular acrylic desk, and your bamboo one will also be keeping the environment in mind as it is eco friendly!
Give Existing Items A New Life –
Instead of straight away going to buy new furniture, look at what you already have. Do you have some old furniture which isn’t too damaged and can be used again? For example, you might have an old desk but now you want to change the overall colour scheme of your home office, instead of throwing it out and buying a new one, choose the sustainable route and just give it a new fresh coat of paint, this way your not wasting good furniture but your repurpose it to fit your current likings. You could even do something simple like rearranging your corner shelve to give it a different look and add some change.
Keep It Simple –
Your home office doesn’t need to be packed with loads of furniture to make it feel more comfortable or ‘up with the trends’. Keeping it minimal to what you actually need and use helps your office feel more personal and easier to work in. Keeping your stationary and essentials organised in your desk drawer will keep your work station more clean and suitable to work in. The simple workspace will help you feel more focussed on your work too so you’ll be more productive and get things done instead of constantly cleaning up your desk every time you sit down to use it.
Just because you are creating an eco friendly, sustainable home office, it doesn’t mean that you’re sacrificing the aesthetics or your comfort. Using natural materials and furniture to decorate your home office, you can still have a warm, stylish and personal work station all whilst playing your part in keeping the environment in mind.
